RSSS Director in Washington DC for World Bank event

Professor Adam Graycar, Director of the ANU Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS) is speaking in Washington DC this week at an event called ‘Corruption in Rich Countries’.

The event is co-hosted by the Australian National University (ANU) and the World Bank's Integrity Vice Presidency (INT), the independent arm of the World Bank responsible for investigation of internal fraud and corruption.

“We often think that corruption is the exclusive preserve of poorer countries in Asia, Africa and South America,” Professor Graycar said.  “Corruption certainly exists in rich countries too and has a different dynamic to corruption in poor countries.”

“We want to share the research being carried out at ANU, which has global applications.”

Professor Graycar, who was invited to speak at the event as an international expert, will appear alongside Professor Matthew Stephenson from the Harvard Law School.

The program will examine experiences of corruption, corruption risks, what countries have done to successfully prevent corruption, and how public policy and controls in public administration can be used to build greater institutional integrity.

Professor Graycar’s visit to the American capital continues with a presentation at the American Society for Public Administration in Washington on Friday.
